Anti-Bullying

Our Ethos

At Cotmanhay Infant and Nursery School, we care about every child’s wellbeing. If worries about unkind behaviour or bullying ever arise, we take these concerns seriously and act quickly to support the children involved.

We work closely with families to make sure positive behaviour is encouraged everywhere. Our school ethos is about kindness, respect, and helping children make good choices. To guide us, we use our Cotmanhay Golden Rules:

  • Do your best
  • Make good choices
  • Be kind
  • Tell the truth

By following these rules together—children, staff, and families—we create a school where everyone feels valued and supported.

Always come to us with any worries, we will listen and act.

What is bullying?

At Cotmanhay Infant and Nursery School, we want every child to feel safe, happy, and cared for.
When we talk to young children about bullying, we explain it in a way they can understand.

Bullying is when someone keeps being unkind to another person on purpose.
We teach children that bullying means it happens “lots of times, on purpose.”

Bullying can be about things like:

  • How someone looks
  • Their feelings or health
  • Their family or home life
  • Their culture, religion, or background
  • Their gender
  • A disability or special need

How we help

Young children are still learning how to play, share, and understand feelings.
If unkind behaviour happens, we:

  • Help the child who is upset
  • Support the child who is finding it hard to behave kindly
  • Work with families so everyone knows how we’re helping
  • Teach children how to use kind words, gentle hands, and friendly behaviour

We take all worries seriously, no matter how small they may seem. If you have any concerns, please speak to a member of staff — we’re here to support you and your child.

If a child feels someone is being unkind or bullying them, there are things they can do...

  • Tell a friend
  • Tell a member of the School Council
  • Tell a safe and trusted grown up
  • Tell a parent or adult at home whom you feel you can trust
  • Discuss it in Jigsaw time
