Year 2
There are 2 classes in Year 2. One class is a mixed year 1/2 class.
The teachers in Year 2 work hard as a team, along with our teaching assistants, to plan and deliver an exciting and informative curriculum for all the children.
The team consists of:
Tawny Owls– Y1/Y2 Mrs Bradley Knight, Mrs James and the teaching assistant Mrs Garbett.
Tigers- Y2 Miss Stallard and the teaching assistants Mrs Jones-Moody and Mrs Marrion.
We share all photos, learning links and messages on our ClassDojo platform.
Experiences throughout our year are linked closely to problem-solving, reasoning and becoming independent thinkers and learners. Children will be involved in group work led by a teacher and a teaching assistant and independent work.
Topic work is integral to the school day and classes work on English and Maths that are linked to our topics to encourage enjoyment and a deeper understanding.
In math's we use the mixed year 1/2 planning taken from the White Rose scheme and adapt it to meet the needs of our pupils. We use manipulatives to support all new learning and to increase engagement, reveal misconceptions, and support problem-solving by providing a visual, hands-on representation of numerical relationships.
Children learn to read using phonics following the Little Wandle Revised scheme. We want the children to gain the skills and confidence to develop a life-long love of reading.
Writing is taught through regular practise including handwriting following the Penpals scheme, dictation (we call it "Quick Write"!) spelling, punctuation and grammar lessons and many opportunities throughout the week to write for different purposes, often linked to other subjects like history, geography or science.
Work is planned so that all children are given work that is at their level to ensure they are making the most progress they possibly can.
We send home weekly spellings and set weekly maths homework through maths seeds and online app your children has access to, for your child to practise skills taught in class that week. Thank you for your support with this.
To send us anything you have been doing or any questions, please message us on the class dojo page. We LOVE to see anything you do at home so please always do share this with us on this area.
