School Sports Funding Report

What is School Sport Funding?

From September 2013 schools received a new ring-fenced ‘Funding for PE and Sport’.  Schools receive annually funding of an £8000 lump sum.

Schools have flexibility on how they use the funding but it should be used to increase and improve the offer available to pupils.  Development and training of staff to provide sustainable improvements is also a key focus.

What does this mean for us at Cotmanhay Infant and Nursery School?

As you can imagine, we are extremely excited about the sports funding. Mrs Meer is our Leader of PE and School Sports we have used this funding to provide our children with more sports opportunities. One of the ways Mrs Meer has used part of the funding is by buying into the Derbyshire School Sports Partnership. We work with the Partnership to:

  • Increase the amount of competition sport in which our children participate.
  • Make links to other community sports providers.
  • Develop additional clubs and activities for children, outside the curriculum. Encourage our children to improve their leadership skills through sport.
  • Send our staff members on training courses to improve their skills
  • Give extra support in PE to our most talented children and include those with special needs in sport.
  • Bringing in PE and sports specialist teachers and coaches into work alongside class teachers in lessons.
